In Memoriam: Talmage Sherrill Baggett Jr.

Talmage Sherrill Baggett Jr. died July 13. He was 74.
Baggett practiced law with Barrington, Jones, Armstrong and Baggett, and later with Armstrong and Baggett before being elected District Court Judge for the 12th Judicial District in Cumberland County. He was the father of NCAJ member Marianna Baggett.
Baggett also served as a Cumberland County Commissioner from 1998 to 2006, on the North Carolina Sentencing Commission, on the 12th Judicial District Criminal Justice Partnership and on many boards of vital institutions in Cumberland County. He was the Eastover Sanitary District Founding Chair and Attorney, and he worked as the manager of the Sanitary District during his retirement. Gov. Roy Cooper awarded him the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 2018 in recognition of his exemplary dedication to public service.
Baggett earned his undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University and his law degree from Campbell University School of Law. He was an NCAJ member from 1985 until 2001.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, July 18 at Highland Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville. Find details and his obituary here.
