Membership Levels & Dues

Attorney +

  • 11+ Years Licensure*       $475
  • 6-10 Years Licensure*     $350
  • 2-5 Years Licensure*       $250
  • First Year of Practice**   Free

*Includes faculty at accredited NC Law School

Membership terms begin July 1 and end June 30 each year.

There is no fee to join a division, caucus or committee if you are an NCAJ member. There is a $95 fee for joining a section. Please see the list of sections, divisions, and caucuses here.

Public Service Attorney +

  • 11+ Years Licensure                    $250
  • 6-10 Years Licensure                  $200
  • 2-5 Years Licensure                    $175
  • First Year of Practice                  Free
  • Legal Aid of North Carolina      $125

Membership terms begin July 1 and end June 30 each year.

Members are eligible for the public service rate if their practice consists entirely of representing indigent persons or if they are employed by a nonprofit legal services organization or a public defender’s office, or if they handle indigent cases in private practice.

There is no fee to join a division, caucus or committee if you are an NCAJ member. There is a $25 fee for joining a section. Any attorney in their first year of licensed practice receives their first section at no cost. Please see the list of sections, divisions, and caucuses here.

Retired +

  • Retired attorneys who are inactive with North Carolina State Bar       $175

Membership terms begin July 1 and end June 30 each year.

There is no fee to join a division, caucus or committee if you are an NCAJ member. There is a $95 fee for joining a section, first section free. Please see the list of sections, divisions, and caucuses here.

Student | FREE +

  • Law Student or Paralegal/Legal Assistant Student

Membership terms begin July 1 and end June 30 each year.

Student members are not eligible to join NCAJ sections. NCAJ has a students only section available at no cost.

Paralegal/Legal Assistant +

Paralegals and legal assistants who are employed by a member of NCAJ may join the Paralegal Division.

  • 2+ Years*                                          $175
  • First Year of Practice*                    Free
  • Legal Aid of North Carolina          $100

* Requires certification and/or verification by employer that is an active NCAJ member.

Paralegal Division members may serve on the Executive Committee of other Sections, Divisions and Caucuses but may not serve as chair of other Sections, Divisions and Caucuses.
