In Memoriam: Patricia “Pat” Hinds Marschall Spearman

Patricia “Pat” Hinds Marschall Spearman died Jan. 5, 2025. She was 91.

Spearman was a pioneering female attorney and law teacher. She earned her law degree from the University of Texas School of Law in 1955 and her masters in law from Harvard University. She became the first female professor at Duke University Law School in 1972. In 1975 she joined the faculty of the North Carolina Central University School of Law.

She was a member of NCAJ from 1981 to 2000.
