In Memoriam: Benton Walton III

Benton Hair Walton III died Jan. 30, 2026. He was 89.

Walton practiced law in Columbus County for close to 60 years as part of the firm Williamson & Walton in Whiteville. He served as town attorney for Chadbourn for over two decades. Walton was a member of NCAJ from 1983 to 2011.

He was a graduate of Duke University in 1958, where he received a degree in political science and earned his law degree from University of North Carolina School of Law.
