Join the Eminent Domain Section – Advocating for Property Rights and Fair Compensation
The Eminent Domain Section is dedicated to educating the public, lawmakers, judges, and legal professionals on the complexities of eminent domain law, grounded in the protections of the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Our mission is to better serve clients and the public by building a strong network of advocate members who collaborate and support one another in the pursuit of justice. Together, we:
- Work on high-impact cases and submit amicus curiae briefs on critical appellate issues
- Lobby the legislature to uphold and advance property rights
- Host a Spring CLE on Land Condemnation, with discounted rates for Section members
Through the dedication of our members, we’ve achieved landmark victories, including the Map Act decisions, which upheld the right to fair compensation for thousands of North Carolinians and reinforced the requirement of a valid public purpose in land takings.
Section members also benefit from:
- An active listserv for timely discussion and support
- Monthly “Study Hall” sessions to address real-time eminent domain questions and challenges
Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or new to the field, the Eminent Domain Section provides the resources, community, and advocacy you need to make a difference.
Join the nearly 100 Section members and help defend the constitutional rights of North Carolina’s property owners.
