Whitney J. Butcher comes to KBA with extensive experience litigating products liability, mass
tort, and single event cases. With previous positions as both Partner for a prominent North
Carolina based personal injury firm, and as Senior Attorney for a large firm with a national
reach, she values the importance of quality client-centered representation but also knows how to
fiercely litigate against billion-dollar companies in complex proceedings. She has previously
been appointed to the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee for the Smith & Nephew BHR Hip Implant
Multi-District Litigation (“MDL”) and the Discovery Committee for the Fresenius
Granuflo/Naturalyte Dialysate MDL. She has also litigated cases in numerous other federal
consolidated litigations and MDLs and has experience taking corporate fact witness and 30b6
depositions, arguing and briefing motions, and helping to oversee document discovery and the
review of millions of pages of documents.
Her favorite aspect of practicing law, though, is the ability represent individuals and help tell
their stories. She has successfully represented hip implant clients whose devices failed
prematurely, helped numerous families navigate and ultimately resolve tragic wrongful death
cases, and worked to secure a multi-million-dollar settlement for a client with a severe traumatic
brain injury and orthopedic injuries following a devastating motor vehicle wreck.
Born and raised in Ashland, Kentucky, Ms. Butcher graduated from Elon University magna cum
laude in 2009, with double majors in Political Science and Public Administration. She also
competed on the Division I Women’s Tennis Team and was named an ITA Scholar Athlete. She
then attended Elon University School of Law where she was a member of the Moot Court Board
and argued at several national competitions, graduating in 2012.
