Susan is a disability lawyer who serves her clients with compassion as they endure a difficult administrative law process. But she also helps ensure her clients receive justice through post-administrative appellate advocacy.

Law is a second profession for Susan who taught philosophy and history for 15 years before enrolling in law school. She received an MS in ethics from the University of Utah and a BA in philosophy from the University of Vermont. Not surprisingly, her lifelong interests in the world of ideas, ethics, and argument led to an interest in the law. Raised by an NAACP Image Award Winner, Susan grew up with an awareness of racial inequality and injustice.

Susan attended the North Carolina Central University School of Law Evening Program and in her final year clerked in the Appellate Division of the US Attorney’s Office, EDNC.  She now runs her own practice, The Downs Law Office PLLC.

Susan grew up in State College, PA. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, Big Ten football, partner dancing, and her dogs Sophie (Pug) and Hank Williams (GSP).
