Dr. Amy James is a clinical and forensic psychologist specializing in answering psychological questions within a legal context. Dr. James provides forensic mental health evaluations, direct and cross-examination consultation, trial/hearing consultation to attorneys, and testimony preparation practice to mental health professionals. Dr. James’ evaluation services are objective and data-driven, regardless of retaining party or court order.
Dr. James’ primary areas of practice include assessment in the course of criminal proceedings, juvenile matters, and civil (family and juvenile) court. She routinely consults with attorneys in matters of child forensic interviewing, assessing the veracity of sexual abuse allegations, visitation, child custody, adult guardianship, and trial preparation.
Dr. James is an Air Force Veteran (psychologist) and, in addition to clinical and forensic psychological services, has extensive experience in program development, project management, leadership, and executive consultation. She is a member of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, North Carolina Psychological Association, and the American Psychology-Law Society (Div 41, APA). Dr. James has served on the Governor’s Task Force on Safer Schools.
