Ward Black Law-Legal Aid Event Marks 10 Years

September 01, 2021

Ward Black Law and Legal Aid of North Carolina celebrated a decade of honoring North Carolina women attorneys with the 10th Annual North Carolina’s Top 50 Super Lawyers Celebration, held virtually last week. NCAJ Past President Janet Ward Black founded the event to give women who make the Super Lawyers list an opportunity to get to know one another better and to foster mentor relationships among women attorneys. The event has raised more than $70,000 for Legal Aid since its founding. Donors at last week’s event gave more than $4,000, met with an anonymously donated match of $5,000.

“Legal Aid serves all 100 counties, and there are so many communities where there is help needed, and there are no resources, no ability to pay counsel,” Black said during the event. “Legal Aid is filling that gap. They are bringing hope to people who are often without hope.”

Among those honored were eight NCAJ members who made the Super Lawyer list: Laurie B. Biggs, Stubbs & Perdue, P.A.; Leto Copeley, White & Stradley, PLLCMargaret B. Maloney, Maloney Law & Associates, PLLCGena G. Morris, James, McElroy & Diehl, P.A.; Laura L. Noble, The Noble Law FirmC.
