In Memoriam: Norman Kellum Jr.

Norman Bryant Kellum Jr. died May 11. He was 88.
Kellum practiced law in New Bern for more than 50 years, beginning in 1968, when he formed a partnership with John Beaman that would become Kellum Law Firm. During his career, he served as president of the American Board of Trial Advocates for Eastern North Carolina and as president of the Eastern North Carolina Inn of Court.
He was a member of NCAJ from 1970 to 2018 and served two terms on the Board of Governors between 1978 and 1987.
Kellum earned his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University and his law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law. He served with the 101st Airborne Division before attending law school.
A funeral service with military honors will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 239 Middle Street, New Bern, NC 28560.
