In Memoriam: John Garrett Ludlum

John Garrett Ludlum died March 16, 2026. He was 78.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from Campbell College in Buies Creek and was a graduate of the charter class of Campbell Law in 1979.
Ludlum practiced law in Duplin County for 44 years, helping clients with real estate closings, estate administration, speeding tickets, DWIs, serious felony charges and civil disputes. He served as town counsel for five towns in Duplin County throughout his career. The members of the Duplin County Bar, prosecutors, the courthouse staff, clerks, bailiffs and judges all brought him more joy and happiness than they will ever know. The highlight of his days was sitting in judge’s chambers with his colleagues, sipping coffee and sharing old war stories and cracking jokes.
He was a member of NCAJ from 1981 to 2009.
