Hambourger, Pickett Petition N.C. Supreme Court Regarding Claim of Racial Discrimination in Jury Selection in Forsyth
NCAJ members Elizabeth Hambourger and Mark Pickett’s petition to the N.C. Supreme Court regarding claims of racial discrimination in jury selection will move forward, per a statement from the Court released on April 14. The case is focused on their client Russell William Tucker’s claim that Forsyth County prosecutors used made-up reasons pulled from a training document to strike potential Black jurors from the jury at his trial in 1996. This is one of two upcoming cases the N.C. Supreme Court has agreed to review regarding race and gender discrimination in jury selection. Learn more in this article from the Winston-Salem Journal.
