Christina Hubbard is one of the 11 members of the NCAJ NEXT Leadership Program class of 2025. The program identifies the state’s emerging trial lawyer leaders.

Lives in: Raleigh

Law degree from: The University of North Carolina School of Law

Works as: Litigation attorney at The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin

Why do you want to participate in the NCAJ NEXT Program? It aligns with my professional goals and personal values as an upcoming trial lawyer. The opportunity to build relationships with fellow young trial lawyers from diverse locales and practice areas is particularly exciting. I firmly believe in the value of collaboration and learning from peers with different experiences and perspectives.

Moreover, the program’s commitment to preparing tomorrow’s trial lawyer leaders today is incredibly motivating. I am dedicated to developing my leadership skills and advancing my ability to advocate effectively. By participating in this program, I aim to gain the tools and experiences necessary to become a more impactful and innovative leader in the legal community.

In what ways are you involved in NCAJ or other legal organizations? I joined NCAJ as a law student member in 2022 and then joined as an attorney after passing the bar. I am also a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association, the Wake County Bar Association, the Capital City Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice.

How and why is the idea of civil or criminal justice important to you? The idea of civil and criminal justice is incredibly important because it represents a fundamental means of ensuring fairness and protecting individuals’ rights. I became a lawyer driven by a deep-rooted desire to help people, particularly those who face societal barriers and lack the privilege or power to advocate for themselves. Civil and criminal justice systems can often feel out of reach for marginalized individuals, and I am committed to bridging that gap. By advocating for justice, I aim to contribute to a more equitable legal system where everyone has access to the protections and opportunities they deserve.

In your opinion, where do you see NCAJ as an organization in five to 10 years? I envision NCAJ as a leading force in shaping the future of trial law and expanding its influence and impact within the legal community and political landscape. I see it becoming a key hub for innovative legal strategies and best practices, with a robust network of members who are not only skilled trial lawyers but also proactive leaders in justice reform.

The organization will likely have strengthened its outreach and educational initiatives, offering more comprehensive resources and training opportunities for its members. Its reputation for fostering collaborative relationships across diverse practice areas will make it an indispensable resource for emerging trial lawyers, driving advancements in legal advocacy and promoting a more inclusive and equitable legal system.

Through my participation in NCAJ’s NEXT Leadership Program, I hope to… enhance my legal skills and leadership abilities while building a solid network with fellow trial lawyers. I aim to gain invaluable insights from diverse perspectives, which will help me contribute more effectively to the legal community. Additionally, I want to become more connected with NCAJ and understand how the benefits and expectations of membership will help me advance in my career and become a better advocate for justice.

Outside of work … I am an avid traveler, and it is my personal goal to visit all seven continents by the time I turn 30. I am 27, and I have three more to go. During the pandemic, I developed a passion for amateur photography, which allows me to capture beauty in everyday moments. I also enjoy indoor gardening and visiting parks, and I try to visit as many parks and botanical gardens as I can during the warmer months. Additionally, I enjoy reading and listening to audiobooks from various genres, but mostly fiction and science fiction.
