Batch Appointed to Fill Vacant District 17 Senate Seat
Wake County Democratic Party members nominated NCAJ member Rep. Sydney Batch to fill the N.C. Senate District 17 seat vacated last month by Sen. Sam Searcy. Gov. Cooper is expected to appoint Batch to the seat. Batch, a Wake County Democrat, was elected to represent District 37 in the N.C. House of Representatives in 2018, and lost her re-election bid in November. Batch is a founding partner of Batch Poore & Williams, PC, where she focuses her practice on family law and child protective services.
Cooper also recently appointed Batch to the North Carolina Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. She also serves on the newly formed Chief Justice’s Committee Fairness and Equity, created by former Chief Justice Cheri Beasley before she left office, and on the Ethics Committee for the North Carolina State Bar.
