NCAJ Will Honor Nine Luminaries with Awards
NCAJ will give awards to nine leaders who have helped further the cause of promoting justice and empowering a strong community of trial lawyers across the state. The Nominating Committee presented the list to the Board of Governors at its meeting on Friday, April 17.
The awards will go to:
- Annie Brown Kennedy Award to Anabel Rosa. Given for commitment to acquiring full freedom for all citizens of North Carolina and exceptional advocacy that protects individual liberties. Recognizes active service in their local community with a focus on the status and welfare of families and minority citizens.
- Charles L. Becton Teaching Award to Jacob Morse. Given for excellence in the teaching of trial advocacy.
- Excellence in Journalism Award to Keely Arthur. Recognizes a print or broadcast journalist whose work has contributed to protecting people’s rights.
- Henson McCabe Miller Leadership Award to Shannon Leskin. Given in circumstances such as outstanding leadership during a legislative session or outstanding leadership/assistance in a public service project.
- Outstanding Appellate Judge Award to Judge Allegra Collins
- Outstanding Trial Judge Award to Judge Alan Thornburg
- Robby Price Award to Rana Holcomb. Presented to a paralegal that has made significant contributions in the fight for justice on behalf of their clients and the citizens of North Carolina.
- Thurgood Marshall Award to Andy Banzhoff. Established to recognize extraordinary and selfless service to the people of North Carolina in keeping with the legacy of Justice Thurgood Marshall.
- Founders Award to John McCabe. The highest award given by the Advocates for Justice. For extraordinary service to justice and to the Advocates for Justice in the tradition of our founding members, Allen Bailey, Charles Blanchard, James Clontz, Eugene Phillips and William Thorp.
The awards will be presented during Convention 2026 on Thursday, June 25 and Friday, June 26 in Wilmington.
