Holt Honored With McMillan Award

C. Mark Holt has been presented with the John B. McMillan Distinguished Service Award. Holt has practiced primarily as a personal injury attorney in Raleigh since 1987, the same year he joined NCAJ.
Excerpted from the article in the State Bar Journal:
Holt graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law and was mentored by Wade Smith, who taught him that every day as a lawyer is an opportunity to make the world a better place. Since 2021, Holt has been semi-retired, focusing his practice on volunteering with pro bono and public service programs. He served as president of both the North Carolina Bar Association and the North Carolina Bar Foundation from 2020 to 2021. The NCBA honored him with the Thorp Pro Bono Service Award in 2025.
Beyond his bar leadership, Holt has contributed significantly to the administration of justice, serving as an advisory member of the North Carolina State Bar Ethics Committee and on the Chief Justice’s Rules Advisory Commission.
Holt’s distinguished record of service extends to the highest levels of trial advocacy and dedication to pro bono work. He is a highly recognized trial lawyer, elected as a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2009, where he later served as state chair from 2017 to 2019. He was inducted into the International Society of Barristers in 2023.
His commitment to ensuring equal access to justice is evident through his service on the Board of Directors of Legal Aid of North Carolina and his inclusion in the 2023 North Carolina Pro Bono Honor Society.
