Boyle Named Interim U.S. Attorney

W. Ellis Boyle took the oath of office to become the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina on Aug. 11. The oath was administered by his father, U.S. District Judge Terrence W. Boyle. Attorney General Pamela Bondi appointed Ellis Boyle as the interim U.S. Attorney on Aug. 7.
Boyle previously practiced at Ward and Smith, P.A., representing businesses, government entities and individuals in complex matters. He was an NCAJ member from 2015 until his appointment as interim U.S. Attorney.
Boyle also served as General Counsel and Deputy Secretary at the North Carolina Department of Public Safety and as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of North Carolina. Before serving as an AUSA, Boyle practiced as a business litigation associate at Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge & Rice in Winston-Salem, where he primarily represented companies in complex business disputes and dissolutions.
Boyle earned his undergraduate degree from Davidson College. After graduating, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the Army where he served as an infantry officer for four years, eventually rising to the rank of Captain. Following his time in the Army, Boyle earned a law degree from Wake Forest University Law School.
