NCAJ Service Project at Convention 2016

Sponsored by NCAJ’s New Lawyers Division

NCAJ's New Lawyers Division is leading the organization in supporting NourishNC and their work to feed chronically hungry students in New Hanover County!  We encourage all Convention attendees (and all NCAJ members!) to support this organization by donating food or funds.  Details are below.  Thank you!

The mission of NourishNC is to provide children with healthy food, empowering them to succeed in the classroom and in their community. The Backpack Program’s primary focus is to provide supplemental weekend food assistance to chronically hungry children in New Hanover County.  Their goal is to enhance children’s health and well-being by preventing the disastrous consequences of child hunger. NourishNC accomplishes this by providing 8 meals, 2 snacks and produce to nearly 620 children in 29 New Hanover County schools (PreK-12).  They serve these children every weekend during the entire school year and throughout all school breaks.

  • 1 in 4 kids go hungry in New Hanover County
  • More than 50% of New Hanover County school kids are on free/reduced lunch.
  • In 17 Hew Hanover Co. schools 100% of the kids qualify for free/reduced lunch
  • There are 7 food deserts in Wilmington alone.

Donating Funds - Making the Dollar Stretch Further

Donated food items (see list below) are very welcome.  However, please consider making a financial contribution instead.  More mouths are fed each day with dollar contributions, because every $1 donation distributes $4 worth of food.  NCAJ will present NourishNC with the total contribution amount after this drive.  Please help us reach our goal of donating over 1000 dollars and 1000 pounds of food to NourishNC!
